Mike,
We both have the same kind of sound card. Things to do if those haven't
yet been done. Understand first Debian is a light traveling operating
system; what packages you didn't download beyond a basic set will not be
on your system. Contrast that with say slackware where all packages
slackware has to offer get put on your system. You'll find that a light
traveling operating system buys you security advantages since packages you
didn't ask for are not on your system so don't have to be secured. To fix
the sound card situation try aptitude install alsa -r as a command and
that will install a few packages. Once that's done reboot and do the
command alsaconf and when you get asked which card to configure the first
choice ens 1371 will be the one you want. So just hit return there and
choose yes to have a couple files modified. When alsaconf gets finished
the sound card will be working.
