Unison looks like it will do this job well. 

However, because Kontact is a shell to a few differant programs (kontact, 
kmail, Korganizer, kaddressbook, aKregator), you'll need to be sure you get 
all of the configuration files and data files for each program. You may want 
to sync all of ~/.kde/ to be sure you get everything.

I think I will try this out sometime, I prefer Kmail to the gmail interface, 
so I only do email on my laptop, currently.
