In my recently installed Etch system, ghostscript seems unable to find some common fonts.
I'm trying to work with a big pile of lecture images I've made over the years with Adobe Illustrator, and most of them fail now in gs. I made a test file circle.ai that has just a black circle, and gs displays that fine. A second test file a.ai has just the letter `A' in Times Italic. gs fails to display this and puts out a long error message that includes: ERROR: /undefined in ._cjkv_CIDFontmapForAllESP Ghostscript 815.03: \ Unrecoverable error, exit code 1 Operand stack: --nostringval-- _Times-Italic Times-Italic 0 0 Times-Italic \ (*) ... This is gs-8.15.3. I have an older Red Hat machine with gs-7.05, and that displays all of the files correctly and without errors. On both machines, I'm running all this from an xterm with fvwm window manager. "gs -h" shows several font directories that are searched, but not /usr/share/fonts/X11/Type1. I believe that's the location of the fonts I got by installing gsfonts-x11. I also have the regular gsfonts installed. I haven't found a file for Times font so far. Did some of these fonts disappear for copyright reasons? How can I make them available to gs? I may have all of the AFM and PFB files I would need on an old Win4Lin (Win98) filesystem and also on Red Hat but am not sure how to correctly add them.
