I had indeed forgotten that you were one of the people proposing a
separate OT list so yes, there may have been some misunderstanding,

The wording of your _last_ post seemed to refer to only _one_ list/
forum within the project where both in topic and OT stuff should be
allowed to stay. Note that, from the tone of his reply, also Miles
F. understood the same thing, or so it seems to me.

Allow me to rephrase.

What I believe is:

1) Both newcomers and "people who "know" each other for years on this
list" should indeed be "condemned to keep discussions (mostly)
on-topic or leave" on the OFFICIAL support forums of any FOSS
projects, not just Debian. Not to make _me_ happy, but by the
objective, self-evident reasons I posted in my other reply.

2) after this behavior is enforced (how and by whom is an entirely
different matter), OK, I see no problem if the project itself also
provides an entirely separate forum where people can voluntarily troll
at each other till the end of days, just for the fun of it. Or if the
worst (however you define worst) "offenders" in the OT forum are also
the most active and more technically competent voices in the official
forum.

I'm not esplicitly asking a separate OT list. All I care is that
people who want or can to exchange support and opinions only on
*Debian* issues can do it without wasting time, changing provider,
turning their email configuration upside down, becoming POP/IMAP
certified engineers before subscribing or generally hearing more noise
than info. If a separate OT list is the best way to achieve this, by
all means let's go for it.
