DHCP. Laptop has its own IP address. No idea about name resolution. Not certain how to check it In response to Andrew, not certain if resolv.conf is getting updated. Once again not certain how to check. Ping was by IP address. Difficult to be pro-active since I cannot email from the Debian partition.
