I'm reinstalling on my laptop, to get rid of the old windows partition. I installed off of the 3.0 CD, now I'm upgrading to testing/unstable. The laptop is a (old, but still works!) NEC Versa SX.
I wanted a newer kernel than 2.2.20, so I installed the kernel-image-2.4.21-i686 and the related kernel-image-pcmcia-modules-2.4.21-i686. I have one of those Xircom PCMCIA cards with telephone, LAN, etc. When I boot into 2.2.20 it all works fine and I see an xirc2ps_cs module. When I boot into 2.4.21, none of the PCMCIA cards work. It turns out it can't even insmod the i82365 module (I know this is the right PCIC setting because it's what 2.2.20 uses); I get this error: Intel PCIC probe: not found. Because if this, I can't install the ds module or my network card modules. Note it works fine with exactly the same system, booted into 2.2.20.
