That's not normal. Can you describe what system you have - hardware
and software (sorry, maybe you said distro somewhere before, but i'm
too lazy to follow). Can you provide output of:
aptitude search linux-image | grep ^i
cat /etc/debian_version
cat /etc/apt/sources.list
cat /proc/cpuinfo
