Is it possible to remove the mounted drive icons from my desktop in Gnome? Every time I connect to another server location, it creates an icon on my desktop and then adds it to my Places->Network Places menu item. I like a clean desktop and would like to remove the icons, but still have access to the locations, is this possible?

Also, is it possible to setup mounts to say XP shared drives and Linux shared locations so that they will show up inside apps like Gimp and Open office?

Thanks,
-Eric
