this is a specific kernel version and refers to a package which
actually contains a kernel.

this is a meta-package which points to the latest version of the 2.6
kernel for the 486 architecture. that is currently 2.6.18-4, so if you
install this, you will get the one above. However, if a new version of
2.6.18 comes out, then this package will change to point to the new
kernel and you will automagically upgrade the kernel. 

so pick the first one if you want that specific kernel with no
upgrades. pick the second on if you always want the latest 2.6
kernel.
