Okay folks, thanks for the replies i) I discovered that news.demon.co.uk is *not* available to me (despite demon being my ISP!) ii) I tried freenews.netfront.net and after waiting a lot more than a couple of minutes, I got a list of groups and subscribed to linux.debian.users (I think that's the correct name from mem) iii) However, today Evo is asking me for a valid email a/c on freenews iv) It appears freenews.netfront.net is read only -- any suggestions for (UK) nntp servers? I'm only really interested in a small subgroup of available news groups, linux.debian.users being the main (and at the moment only) one Thanks, Michael
