Hi,
This is fairly OT but I'd be interested to hear your ideas on this
subject.
First a little background information. I may have the opportunity to
develop an application that will enable quadriplegics and other
severely disabled persons to communicate by selecting common phrases
from a set of icons or typing on an onscreen keyboard (the mouse is
controlled by eye movements). Of course software such as this
already exists however it is in my opinion quite crude, very
expensive, and only runs on windows systems
(http://www.gusinc.com/speechsystem.html).
The application is quite simple, the only thing I need is a decent
text to speech engine that will process the text generated by my
program.
If anyone has experience with a (preferrably cross platform) text to
speech engine or some recommendations I would be very grateful.
If no useable cross platform engine is available I will have to go
with a Windows solution for now as that is a requirement for the
project.

Thank you,
Leo Spalteholz
