According to the reviews I read and the specs of that monitor, there's a reason it's cheap. I picked up a LG M1917TM instead for just a little bit more. Much better specs. (and it doesn't do DVI either, but then again, neither does my video card).
Depending on where you live, different things are available. I would suggest looking around a bit because prices do vary. Almost all LCD monitors will work fine with Debian because modern monitors are plug and play and can easily be auto-detected by Xorg (or is it dpkg-reconfigure that does it? Either way, it isn't a problem). AFAIK, there are no monitors that come close to the weight of an A4 piece of paper. While LCD monitors are much lighter than CRT, they're still a pain to lug around. :) As for size, that could be a problem. It's getting harder and harder to find small monitors. 15" LCDs are still to be had, but 17" is the norm and 19" and 21" have become common. That's what laptops are made for.
