You probably want something *real* then? With hardware filtering and a reasonable amount of cache? I'd suggest a Napatech XD2+2 [1]. It's an entry level capture NIC with 2 RJ45 ports and 2 SFP slots. Works well on several taps (I used it with VSSmonitoring, NetOptics and Comcraft) and is runs on Linux, BSD and even Windoze.
