Hi,
I'm trying to install Etch on a new machine, using the net install CD,
but I encountered a problem.
In short, the install process halts soon after tasksel, with a progress
bar stopped at 5%.
The motherboard is a Supermicro PDSME+ with an Intel ICH7R chip and
builtin SATA. I wanted to install Etch using software RAID 1 on two
disks connected to the first two SATA ports. The installer correctly
sees the disks, and I can happily partition them (/, /boot, /usr, /var,
/tmp, /home) and configure the software RAID devices. But then, after
choosing the "tasks" to install in tasksel, the "Please wait" progress
bar appears and it stops at 5%.
The network appears to be correctly configured.
I still have to get back on the machine and do more tests and checks,
but in the meantime, do you see anything which might be causing the problem?
Is software RAID supported by the current Etch net installer? Is ICH7R
supported? Can a /boot or root partition on software RAID 1 cause any
problems during install?
BTW, the machine had Sarge installed before (not by me), but it was on
different HDs on a different (not builtin) controller, so I suppose the
motherboard hardware should be supported.
Thanks.
