I have heard reports of higher rates of failure with IBM harddrives in the cases where hundreds of the drives were used. I remember figures along the lines of having to replace a hard drive every week. In the end, they replaced the entire set with another brand never to have to replace a hard drive again (at least for a while). Hear say, I admit but nevertheless. I am a bit biased though since the only hard drive that has died on me so far(touch wood) is an IBM.
