Hello all I have setup etch for my brother who is (as well as pretty thick) an ex windows user. The problem I am having is that he is so used to gui's that I cannot find the a satisfactory way of connecting to the net. He has a usb adsl sagem 800 fast modem. I have downloaded the firmware and that gets loaded at boot time and then the modem connects to the internet, however they sometimes forget to connect the cable and then they are stuck. Its either a reboot or wait for ages for the boot process to continue. My brother even finds it impossible to just use the pon and poff command because the internet connection is a bit iffy at best and sometimes it disconnects regularly and the reconnection becomes unreliable. The easiest way I can think of is to use kppp (which he used to use with dialup) with the adsl modem, but I cannot get it to work. Does anybody out there know how to get kppp to work with an adsl modem. I am sure it must be possible but there seems to be a lack of docs for kppp so at the moment I am stuck and looking for help. A sample kpprc file would be most appreciated.
