how frustrating!!

I tried the above and get the same error message

 not updating /etc/X11/X;  file has been 
customized".  


I also tried sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg  


and got the same error message

It seems to me when you give the command to FORCE!  it would DO just THAT?  
Why would it give the same error message?
