I'm trying to do an install with the Netinst CD (version 3.1r4) on a machine which only has network access via a wireless network. The WiFi card I'm using is based on the RT61 chipset.
The netinst CD starts and boots the system fine and gets as far as attempting to detect my network card. Of course at this point it can't detect my network card because it doesn't come with the necessary drivers. However it does then give the option to use drivers from disk. So I downloaded (from http://www.ralinktech.com/supp-1.htm ) and complied the drivers on my laptop (which is using the same version kernel according to uname -r). I then built the resulting .o file and necessary firmware files into a .udeb file and put this on a disk. The netinst set up detects the driver package on the give and gives the option to use it as my network driver but can't load it. Trying to load the driver module manually fails which lots of 'unresolved symbol' errors. I must admit I don't really understand what an 'unresolved symbol' error actually means, but I assume its some sort of internal difference in the currently running kernel and what the module expects to find. So I assume I need to re-compile the drivers against exactly the same kernel and modules that the netinst CD was compiled with. How can I do this? There doesn't seem to be any source for the netinst CD available. (or have I got the wrong end of the stick, and should actually be doing completely different?) ..eddie -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble?
