I've installed that kernel a few minutes ago, without any problem on
my sarge.
Get the 2.6.18 kernel from kernel.org and compile it with make-kpkg.

Well, I've also installed that kernel on my old machine. But the problem
is that I can't stand WindowsXP on my new box with P5B: I can't setup
linux, because the installer (latest, with linux2.6.17) detects no
sata/ide hdds, no ide cdroms.
* I tried to build the debian installer based on 2.6.18, but at least one
udeb module is not yet prepared for that kernel (eg. acpi-modules).
* I tried to boot IDE HDD from my old box, but it ended up with Grub Error
21 (I'd solve this, if only I knew the device mappings, hd's, md's..)
Can anybody tell how many months will I have to wait for those new udebs?
I guess Virtualization on Windows now is the only possible way to run
linux..
