Thanks for the answers: The download link works fine - because
it says "Windows/Mac" I was under the false impression that I
get some obscure file. The "video downloader" extension for
Firefox works very well, too. It allows to choose between AVI,
FLV, and MP4. All three formats can be played by mplayer,
gxine and totem play at least the AVI variant.

Conclusion: No need for proprietary software of flash crap :-)
