Am I > correct? well, compiling is not a problem. i have 2 systems running a 2.6.17 kernel under sarge (2.6.17.3 and 2.6.17.6). there are a few things to be considered though: 1. if you want a modular kernel, you have to upgrade module-init-tools 2. if you want to use hotplug, you have to either upgrade to the new udev or switch to usbmgr 3. if you want to use initrd, you have to switch to initramfs-tools or yaird (for me yaird works better) 4. i think, i upgraded kernel-package from backports.org, don't know at the moment though...
