The vesa driver works with almost all the graphic cards. So you can just copy 
the Ubuntu's xorg.conf and place it in /etc/X11/xorg.conf of Etch system. 
Note that vesa driver might not give you the best X performance.

BTW, what version of xorg are you using on Ubuntu?
