Basically any rack-based system will work. I personally use a supermicro
system, and we have some dell-1650's lying around, which I assume will
work nicely as well.

It depends on the hardware inside the box, but on a server you are
probably not going to use the things linux can sometimes have problems
with (3d video accelleration, sound....)
