Hi list! What exactly are the minimum permissions required for a user to be able to use a CD/DVD burner?
The thing is, burning works fine with a Plextor 716A on amd64-sid with the user in the cdrom group and no suid anywhere, but a LiteOn SOHC-5232K on i386-testing causes both k3b and the nautilus cd burning component to abort with a generic error right at the start of the burning progress. (The disk is not touched by this.) I suid-root-ed cdrdao and cdrecord as suggested by k3b, which works, but is obviously just a workaround. On a related note, k3bsetup does not work on any of my machines - it just shows an empty window with a few buttons at the bottom. I don't use kde ortherwise, so I guess I'm missing some packages?
