apt-get build-dep
apt-get source kopete
cd kopete-<$VERSION>
$EDITOR debian/rules
Find the line(s) with "dh_strip" and coment them out.
Save the file and close the $EDITOR
dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot
cd ..
dpkg -i kopete_*.deb
