I'm a fan of small cameras, so I've been happy with my Canon PowerShot SD400. 5 MP, 3x optical zoom, automatic most things, uses SD cards, nice big screen, and overall very small. (Like, pack of cigarettes but thinner.) I've no idea what it's Linux support is like, since I've never bothered to find out.
