Note that if one is searching for a Linux kernel using 'apt-cache --names-only search kernel-image' (the old Linux kernel package naming scheme), 2.4.27 is the highest 2.4 kernel version that will be listed. Having not been on a mailing list at the time, this threw me off for a while. To search for new Linux kernels in the Debian repository, use 'apt-cache --names-only search linux-image' instead.
