I have the exact same problem. And, I get this result from the advice

First, make sure that your user is not already in the audio group:
# id mark
If you're not in the audio group already, use gpasswd to add yourself:
# gpasswd -a mark audio
Take a look at the man-pages for 'id' and 'gpasswd':
man id
man gpasswd
