synaptic with sudo?

I do not use synaptic, but does it not work like aptitude?

I mean, you run it as $USER and if it comes to the installation
of the package(s) it ask for the root password?

You get the error, because sudo tries to run a GTK program as
root in a $USER environement which is not allowed by default...

See environement variable to $XAUTHORITY
