Hi,
2.6.16 causes problems for the *closed source* nVidia drivers.
There is already a bug report:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=357992
But that does little for older, legacy type video cards.
I have a TNT2 and could use 7167 on pre-2.6.16.
I found that for *7* series drivers, the patch reported here:
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=62889
works. It is:
NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-8178-1444349.diff.txt
I do not use the Debian package.
So for the 7xxx *closed source* driver, run:
./NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-7xxx-pkg1 -x
Then cd to NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-7xxx-pkg1 and do:
patch -p0 </someplace/NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-8178-1444349.diff.txt
Then run:
./nvidia-installer
and you are up and running.
Regards,
H
