The GDM greeter in Woody is like that per default AFAIK, KDM and XDM have separate

Did Gnome get partially uninstalled during the upgrade process?! Are you saying that 
there are no instances of
'gnome-session on your system at all?!

Does an 'apt-get install gnome-session' help?!
