Hy, I was able to compile and make a deb file from source with only 2 commands...
dh_make dpkg-buildpackage Though I'm not so experienced yet, and maybe there are better idea's. I was happy it worked out fine. What I needed to know I got from: http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/reference/ch-system.en.html#s-pkg-basics Hope it helps.
