Hi all,

I seem to have a trouble with the X Window System. Both on sarge (where
the X server is XFree86) and on etch (where I use X.org), the graphics
system just hangs from time to time. When it does so, the interface
becomes completely unresponsive, and the keyboard appears to stop
functioning as well (i.e. if I press Caps Lock, nothing happens;
naturally, I can't kill X by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Bksp, too). Nevertheless,
the mouse pointer still moves. The system itself also appears to be OK,
because when I press the Power button, it does some cleanup work and
shuts down normally (the graphics stay on the screen until the last
moment, though the mouse stops functioning soon after I press Power).

I have noticed that X tends to hang when it is given at least some
slight load. For example, GNOME with Clearlooks theme usually doesn't
survive for more than 5 minutes, whereas the same GNOME with Simple
theme may stay up and running somewhat longer. KDE with its heavier
themes (Plastik, if I recall properly) also hangs often. However, the
exact conditions are not clear to me, and if I'm unlucky, X may hang
soon after startup even without any apparent load.

My video card is nVidia GeForce 2 GTS (64 MiB of memory) and it was
recognized by X properly. On sarge, I used kernel 2.4.27 and on etch,
I'm using 2.6.12.

I would be grateful for any advice.
