Which one > should I install? When building a kernel you might want to check the "kernel-package" package which will help to do it the Debian way, i.e. by creating a deb package you can install. Incidentally, this kernel-package package suggests to also install libncurses-dev, which is a virtual package provided by libncurses5-dev and just what you are searching for. HTH, Flo
