I don't know why, but it is working now. I exluded the .lnk files and
backedup the d drive folder separately first. Then I included other
directories to be backed up. Now I am backing up only '/cygdrive/d/user1
/cygdrive/c/Documents\ and\ Settings' and it seems to be working great.
But I agree with you over the points you mentioned. I guess I will try them anyway.
