I have a very up-to-date Sarge. After installing some additional fonts from Debian (Asian, Chinese, Japanese, etc. - I can't read them, but I wanted the ugly squares to go away in Firefox), I ran
xfs restart
and after a while, I noticed the following problem: I can't type '$'
in Thunderbird. All other characters, including @#%^ seem to work.
WTF? I restarted X. Same problem. Rebooted. Same problem. Yuck.
