Hi,

I'm trying to mount a USB flash drive (Sandisk MiniCruzer, 256M)
in a Debian box (kernel 2.4.26-1-686) and get a

"mount: /dev/sda1 is not a valid block device"

What makes you think it's sda? In another xterm, run "tail -f
/var/log/messages" before plugging in the flash drive, and see where it
actually mounts.
Also, it can be only 'sda', instead of sda1. No partitions.
