some minutes ago i have successfull installed debian on my sata-hdd-system. the solution was attaching a jumper at the back of the hdd (the samsung manual talks about a "speed limit jumper"). after this jumper has been placed, the hdd is not listed (as ide) in the bios anymore - i guess that's the "compatible mode" which i have deactivated this way. at the debian installer (no matter if "linux" or "expert"), i manually have to load the ahci and sata_uli modules, before i can continue installation. but fixing this problem ends up in another one occuring: after the installation has finished (i.e. after the FIRST reboot), the system does not boot anymore. here i have two "options": 1) leave the jumper (mentioned above) attached at the hdd: not even grub starts up and the computer complains about not system found 2) i remove the jumper (hdd appears again in the bios as "ide"), grub starts up and loads the kernel. BUT: i get a kernel panic when the kernel tries to load the sata modules: "not syncing - attempting to kill init". has anyone some ideas? mila -- Telefonieren Sie schon oder sparen Sie noch?
