Check out cacti, it will do SNMP pulls on the host. Both bandwidth and
process. Its not a simple app, but very useful. Also if you have
firewall setup on the box, you should be able to get stats on the
ports/protocol.

I've found that iftop and ntop are both pretty useful tools. Relatively
simple to figure out too - you can apt-get them both.
ntop provides you with a web based interface to tell you all kinds of
stuff about where traffic is going.
iftop shows you a real-time usage of your interfaces (rather like top does).
