I did as you described above. I received a long error
message including "Error while initializing the sound
driver: device: default can't be opened for playback
(No such device)." I then installed alsa-base (&
alsa-utils), attempted to select ALSA as the audio
device again, and received the same message. Not sure
what to do at this point.
