Very odd! Which boot loader are you using? If it's lilo then edit lilo.conf 
and look for the line

        append="... hdx=ide-scsi ... "

where x is the IDE controller port. So just remove that 'hdx' entry for your 
zip drive. Don't forget to run lilo after that.
