Sorry. 

You could try installing woody again, I mean it was once working right?,
using the 20 woody floppies archived somewhere. Then upgrade over net.

I've done this with two good floppies, the rescue.bin, root.bin ...
base-20.bin were on a mates M$ machine. I used rawrite.exe to write
rescue.bin to floppy - eject - insert into laptop -- boot laptop -- when
asked for root.bin -- eject -- insert into M$ machine -- rawrite.exe
root.bin -- eject -- insert into laptop ... ... ... ... ...

... and if all goes well, i.e. you can pon out to net, apt-get update
then you are some of the way there.

I'm thinking you have a minimal drivers disk, whereas the woody floppies
had 4 driver disks.
