I formerly used pppoe to connect to Verizon, but now I usually go through a gateway/firewall/router thingy. Just a few days ago I tried to bypass the thingy and use pppoe as I did before, and it didn't work -- in Woody or in Sid. I tore out some of my remaining hair over it but finally did a "tactical withdrawal". If you figure out what the problem is please post it here.
