I found that I couldn't log into X and /tmp permissions
were set to 755 instead of 1777.  Then I turned up this
message in a list archive:

It's possible I did it by accident, but I doubt it.
I think I've hit this problem on another system and
the issue fixed itself (possible with a reboot, but
I don't recall).

Is there anything (besides some malware) that might
automatically change /tmp permissions?  Is there any
way to find out what is making the change without
resorting to making the directory immutable?
