Hi Ken,
I think udev will help. If allows you to specify a device file for a
particular device. You can use multiple criteria to specify a device and
then make a specific name for it.
eg. I have a usb thumbdrive. It has a certain manufactuere id and a usb
serial number. I can then say to mount this drive as /dev/thumbdrive or
what every I like.
so: install usb and related packages(not sure what that is?)
and then google for howto make usb rule.
