I was just moving my menu panel to the right-hand side and I was trying to
adjust its width (or height as it would have been while on the bottom side).

There is a dialog box with a increment control to set the value, and while I
was scrolling this up, the menu panel went crazy, started flashing black and
white 4 or 5 times a second, maxed out the CPU and from that point, I could
enter any commands and none of my mouse clicks registered.

I tried bailing out of x with ctrl-alt-backspace, but it didn't work.

I had to ssh into the machine and kill the processes - tried the panel process
first, then nautilus, then the window manager. That got me back to a cmd line.

Now though going into the windows manager, the panel is just a white flickering
block which doesn't respond, maxes the CPU and disables all menu command key
combos.

I tried looking at the config files but had no success in reverting the panel
to something that works.

Can anyone help? I'm stuffed without it and have to use my root account.

Thanks
Adam
