All installations of the other kernels failed. Okay... First off, I am *not* an expert, so if I give any wrong info, somebody correct me, please! But about your question itself. Dealing only with the Debian portion... If the installer completes successfully and you can then boot into the system and get command-line access, you have a successfully installed system. From here, it's a question of configuration. The failure of X to start probably does not mean that X is not installed. It probably just is not configured correctly. In particular, I notice that you have a GeForce video card which, if I'm not mistaken, uses the nvidia chipset. For some reason, the nvidia drivers included on Woody don't work with the framebuffer device... In my case this meant that with the default settings, X would try to start, but immediately die leaving an error message that said something like "fatal error: no screens found". But after I edited /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 and changed the option "UseFBdev" to "no" it worked. Hope That Helps. -- ,-----------------------------------------------------------------------------. > -ScruLoose- | Get crazy with the Cheez Whiz! < > Please do not | -Beck < > reply off-list. | < `-----------------------------------------------------------------------------'
