Hi Cheryl, I suggest to check if the right modules are loaded. You need ide-scsi and scsi_mod , additionally for mounting a cdrom device sr_mod and for cd recording sg . Type lsmod (as root) to check if the modules are there. If not, modprobe -v <modulename> . Then either the module is loaded or you get an error message which may help.
