but named is not being killed. it's reloading...

but: i found the problem just because i happened to get onto the
system right while it was happening.

my /var/log/bind had a billion files like
"named.log.1.2.3.1.1.1.1.2.1.1" of zero size, which must have
accumulated over time because of an error in the logrotation. so
logrotate would go through /var/log/bind/* and reload bind after
a rotation of a file. that backfired. it's fixed now.
