That means that a 12 pt type (standard typewriter pica) is 16 characters per inch instead of the 10 it should be. Elite, or 10pt, would go to 25 cpi. Normal readability will require ~18 or 20 pt type. On that small monitor, you'll find it a lot easier to read if you make 1024x768 your max size. Then, the 100 pixel/inch type will be close to true sized. You could go to 800x600 and use 75 pixel/inch type. Or, get a 19+" monitor ;=) Failing that, hold down <ctl> and right click in the xterm window. A menu will pop up giving you choices from "unreadable" to "huge." On a 14" monitor @ 1024x768, I find that "large" is good for these old eyes. If I'm tired, I go "huge."
